We should have never met. We grew up nearly 800 miles apart, Beth in Normal, IL and Jared in Berwick, PA.
But God had a plan.
He brought us together in St. Petersburg, FL through an AmeriCorps program called Athletes in Service to America. In this program, we spent time tutoring, mentoring, and coaching youth. Our time in St. Pete helped us see what is possible when we answer the call to serve others.
Eventually, it was time to move from St. Petersburg and a friend helped Jared find a job on a tomato farm near Wilmington, NC. Beth moved too and was led to a position supporting students to succeed on their path to graduation at a public high school. We were faithful in those positions for nearly 13 years.
God reignited our faith in Him while growing our family in Wilmington. We united before God in marriage in 2008 and were blessed to welcome Emmett Jonathan in 2011 and Watson Charles in 2014. The best decision of our lives was made by giving them to Christ and getting baptized in 2013.
After getting baptized, Jared was hungry to do more for the glory of God. The call to full time ministry came to Jared in 2015 while on a mission trip to Nicaragua. After taking small, consistent steps of faith throughout 2016 and 2017, our family moved to Kijabe, Kenya in July 2018. Currently serving as a dorm family to 9th and 10th grade girls at Rift Valley Academy, we are on a mission to see the worship of Jesus Christ spread across the continent of Africa – through individual lives fully committed to him and collectively through Christ-centered church communities.
So far, following Christ has been quite an adventure. We look forward to what God has in store!
